Classroom Course Option:  An American Heart Association (AHA) course offered by 9i´«Ã½ÓÐÏÞ¹«Ë¾’s Richard A. Henson Medical Simulation Center.  This 4-hour completion course is designed to teach the skills and critical concepts of high quality CPR and AED use for victims of all ages.  This course includes instruction in 1-rescuer and 2-rescuer CPR, bag-mask ventilation, and relief of choking.  This course is designed for the healthcare professionals and students whose careers and educational programs require a course completion card in AHA Health Care Provider CPR.  Suggested program participants include: physicians; nurses; paramedics; emergency medical technicians; respiratory therapists; physical, occupational and speech therapists; physician assistants; medical or nursing students; aids; medical or nursing assistants; and other allied health personnel.

Hybrid Course Option: The HeartCode® Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed to teach the skills and critical concepts of high quality CPR and AED use for victims of all ages.  This course includes instruction in 1-rescuer and 2-rescuer CPR, bag-mask ventilation, and relief of choking.  This course is designed for the healthcare professionals and students whose careers and educational programs require a course completion card in AHA Health Care Provider CPR.  Suggested program participants include: physicians; nurses; paramedics; emergency medical technicians; respiratory therapists; physical, occupational and speech therapists; physician assistants; medical or nursing students; aids; medical or nursing assistants; and other allied health personnel.  To successfully complete this course, one must complete all 3 of the following components. Part 1, an online cognitive portion; Part 2, a hands-on skills session where students have the opportunity for one-on-one practice time with an AHA BLS Instructor; and Part 3, a skills test.  Upon successful completion of all three parts, students receive their healthcare provider course completion card. 

Classroom Course Option:  The American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course is designed for medical providers such as physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.  During this 2-day course, cardiac rhythm analysis, pharmacologic and electrical therapies, and airway management will be addressed.  This course is designed for the healthcare professionals and students whose careers and educational programs require a course completion card in AHA ACLS.  Suggested program participants include: physicians; nurses; paramedics; emergency medical technicians; respiratory therapists; physical, occupational and speech therapists; physician assistants; medical or nursing students; aids; medical or nursing assistants; and other allied health personnel.  A current AHA BLS card is required.

Classroom Course Option:  The American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is designed for medical providers such as physicians, nurses, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, paramedics, and respiratory therapists.  During this 2-day course, cardiac rhythm analysis, pharmacologic and electrical therapies, and airway management for the pediatric population will be addressed. The course will address all aspects of pediatric emergency care. To successfully complete the course, the student must complete all learning stations, pass a written exam, demonstrate proficiency in CPR/AED utilization, and pass two Megacode testing stations.  This course is designed for the healthcare professionals and students whose careers and educational programs require a course completion card in AHA PALS.  Suggested program participants include: physicians; nurses; paramedics; emergency medical technicians; respiratory therapists; physical, occupational and speech therapists; physician assistants; medical or nursing students; aids; medical or nursing assistants; and other allied health personnel.  A current BLS card, basic knowledge of emergency pediatric care, and completion of a dysrhythmia course are pre-requisites to this comprehensive course offering.

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP®) course is an educational program of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) that teaches an evidence-based approach to newborn care.  The course introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation by utilizing a blended learning approach that includes: online testing, online case-based simulations, as well as hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on leadership, communication, and teamwork skills. 

NRP is designed for healthcare professionals involved in hospital-based neonatal resuscitation, including: physicians, nurses, advanced practice nurses, certified nurse midwives, and respiratory care professionals.   

The American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® CPR AED is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, and how to relieve choking in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the practice-while-watching technique which allows facilitators to observe the learners, provide feedback, and guide the learners as they practice the skills. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training.

The American Heart Association’s Heartsaver® First Aid is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills to respond to and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Course content includes: First aid basics (including scene safety, finding the problem, calling for help and more), Medical emergencies (including actions for choking, breathing problems, shock and more), Injury emergencies (including actions for bleeding broken bones, burns, and more), Environmental emergencies (including actions for bites and stings, and temperature-related and poison emergencies).

This course is designed to meet Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements for bloodborne pathogens (BBP) training when paired with site-specific instruction. The American Heart Association course uses the PACT acronym (Protect, Act, Clean, and Tell) and slogan, Know How to Act to help students learn and easily recall bloodborne pathogens training. Students learn how to: Protect themselves from exposure to bloodborne pathogens; Act when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace; Clean themselves and the area when exposed to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace; Tell or report any exposure to blood or blood-containing materials in the workplace.
